Clay. Water. Fire. Passion... combine
as the chemistry behind PerrySmith Pottery's unique and sophisticated
creations. With a style all their own Ann PerrySmith and Jerry Smith
have created a wide range of functional and sculptural work reflecting
their varied interests.
Ann has focused on creating sculptural teapots, platters and vases
adorned with her images from the natural world, most prominently
gingko leaves and dragonflies. These images from nature are linked
together by intricate hand stamp work and carving. One of Ann's
highly detailed teapots could take as long as a month or more to
complete. Her functional, daily use pieces contain the same attention
to detail incorporated on a more practical level. She finds inspiration
in the many facets of life including her own personal history, close
family ties, and familiar objects passed through the generations.
A simple walk outside yields a treasure of ideas.
Ann has had the wonderful opportunity to be accepted as a Roycroft
Artisan. The double RR mark on her work signifies this prestigious
honor. This association once again ties in with her devotion to
honoring the past. Her creations have always twisted together the
past with flavors from today.
Jerry's focus looks to creating gorgeous tableware and contemplative
sculpture. His hand at creating tableware and functional pieces
easily shows the care he takes in combining form with function.
His pieces complement any table setting from contemporary to classical.
They are a joy to use and turn the everyday into something special.
Jerry's fine art background and design consideration are evident
in each piece he creates.
Jerry's sculptural pieces are a narrative on his personal observations
and focus on elevating and preserving obsolete mechanical objects
from the past. Living and working in Buffalo, New York has inspired
many pieces detailing the city's architecture, forgotten steel mills
and waterfront industries, as well as, it's Great Lakes shipping
and maritime history.
Both Ann and Jerry have received numerous national and local awards
for their functional and sculptural work. They are both listed as
contributors to a variety of functional and sculptural ceramic books
and publications. Both have taught at the collegiate level and have
been invited to lecture at seminars and a variety of classroom settings.
They invite you to come and enjoy their creations. Indulge in the
beauty their work has to offer. They guarantee any selection you
make will quickly become a treasure in your home or office. |
